Transportation Planner

The Transportation Planner is responsible for coordinating, routing, and scheduling all outbound shipments to ensure timely, cost-effective, and accurate delivery to customers. This role requires strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and collaboration across logistics, customer service, and warehouse teams.


Responsibilities:

  • Close, route, and schedule outbound shipments daily, ensuring all required shipping documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Select cost-effective and reliable carriers based on pricing and availability.
  • Coordinate proactively with carriers on urgent or non-standard shipments.
  • Maintain communication with Customer Service regarding special delivery instructions.
  • Update supervisors and team members on shipment statuses and resolved issues.
  • Track and follow all outstanding issues to full resolution.
  • Communicate special instructions to warehouse picking teams.
  • Evaluate weather conditions and adjust shipment plans accordingly.
  • Provide departmental coverage during supervisor absences.
  • Assist with UPS order pulling, invoicing, and receiving as needed.
  • Adapt to new processes with accountability and a willingness to learn.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 years’ experience in logistics, transportation, or related field.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience with a TMS or ERP preferred.
  • Basic Excel and Word proficiency.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods of time while performing data entry, documentation, and communication tasks.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or remain on feet for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours per shift).
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing up to 50 lbs. regularly; occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs. with assistance or equipment.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work in warehouses or production environments that may involve variable temperatures, noise, and moving equipment.
  • Ability to operate or work near forklifts, pallet jacks, or other material-handling equipment (if applicable to the role).
  • Ability to visually inspect materials, paperwork, or shipments with sufficient visual acuity for accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person, via radio, or by phone.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
