The Trauma Intervention Specialist is responsible for enhancing the child welfare response by integrating therapeutic assessment, triage, and intervention for children who are involved in the child welfare system. This position will serve as a bridge between the agency, multidisciplinary partners, and community stakeholders to ensure trauma-informed, consistent, and effective interventions for children and families. The Specialist will provide expertise in trauma, facilitate collaboration among partners, and support best practices that prioritize child safety, healing, and well-being.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Community Response & Coordination

  • Strengthen and standardize trauma-informed responses to child abuse and neglect across the community.
  • Serve as a liaison between the agency and multidisciplinary partners including law enforcement, child protection, medical providers, prosecutors, and mental health professionals.
  • Provide/coordinate trauma-informed support within at-risk households, aiming to prevent incidents of abuse and neglect
  • Assist in the development of protocols, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Recommend and/or provide training to ensure consistency in response.
  • Provide case consultation and guidance on trauma-informed practices.

Direct Support

  • Oversee critical response efforts in cases where child welfare concerns have been substantiated, ensuring that appropriate services, including therapeutic interventions, are deployed effectively through the local referral process.
  • Provide support and resources to children and families impacted by abuse, ensuring they are connected to appropriate services.
  • Advocate for children’s needs within multidisciplinary team settings.
  • Assist with crisis intervention and referrals to trauma-focused mental health services.

Program Development & Evaluation

  • Collaborate with leadership to identify gaps in services and develop strategies to address them.
  • Collect data, using LCRB’s Caseworthy System, to assess community response effectiveness.
  • Contribute to grant writing, reporting, and program evaluation efforts.

Training & Education

  • Collaborate with the local training team that consist of various subject matter experts/MDT partners to identify, schedule and/or deliver training to community partners, educators, and professionals on child abuse response, trauma-informed care, and Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) related protocols.
  • Collaborate with the local training team to create and update training materials, handbooks, and resources for professionals and families.
  • Collaborate with the local training team to establish best practices for educating and training the community to ensure proper awareness and consistency in practice.

Other Duties

  • Participate in staff meetings, MDT case reviews, and community coalitions.
  • Stay current with research and best practices in trauma, child abuse response, and intervention models.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to advance the mission of the agency.

Experience/Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, criminal justice, or a related field required.

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in child welfare, trauma intervention, victim advocacy, or related work.
  • Strong knowledge of trauma-informed practices, child development, and the impact of abuse and neglect.
  • Demonstrated experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skill.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends for trainings and community events.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $49,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
