ECU Health Physicians and East Carolina University’s Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, are seeking applicants to fill the positions of Trauma and Acute Care Surgeons. Academic employment at title/rank of Clinical Assistant Professor/Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor/Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor/Professor is available.
Tenure track is available to qualified applicants.
The successful candidate will join a division of eleven academic acute care surgeons in the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery to staff the Trauma Service, Surgical and Trauma Intensive Care Unit, and Emergency General Surgery at ECU Health Medical Center, an ACS verified level 1 University Trauma Center. The Trauma Center experiences an annual patient volume of approximately 4,000 injured patients, including a 15% rate of penetrating injury.
ECU Health Medical Center is the flagship hospital for ECU Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. ECU Health Medical Center is a fully accredited JCAHO hospital and is a 974-bed tertiary referral center, providing acute, intermediate, rehabilitation and outpatient health services to more than 1.4 million people in 29 counties.

Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) which offers matching employer contributions and employee control of investment choices, along with eligibility to participate in various Voluntary Supplemental Retirement Plans (401k, 403b. 457). This position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS). While this position is not automatically eligible for the NC Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS), new hires transferring from another North Carolina state agency and current ECU employees transferring internally who had been enrolled in TSERS in their previous employment will continue participation in TSERS. These individuals may be able to elect to participate in ORP if they had not been offered that option at the time of their initial enrollment into TSERS.
