EURONEWS TRAVEL – LEAD EDITOR


Euronews is Europe’s leading international news media operating TV channels and digital platforms 13 languages : Arabic, English, French, Polish, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Turkish.


Euronews TV is available to more than 400 million households in 160 + countries via cable, digital satellite and terrestrial windows. 82% of Europe’s homes access Euronews TV channel. Euronews content is also distributed on websites, mobile apps, smart TV and social media.

In 2016, Euronews launched Africanews, the first pan-African multilingual news channel. Euronews also offers its expertise worldwide: in Europe with its affiliate channels Euronews Bosnia, Euronews Georgia, Euronews Albania, Euronews Serbia, Euronews Romania, and Euronews Bulgaria, bringing the total number of languages covered by Euronews to nineteen.


Euronews launched its Doha bureau in 2021 in partnership with Qatar Media City. The multi-cultural bureau is a regional hub that films original content and tells stories from across the Middle East and Asia. Context:


Euronews Travel is Euronews’ new global initiative dedicated to inspiring and informing audiences about the world of travel. With a focus on sustainability, cultural exploration, and immersive storytelling, the channel aims to become a leading source for travel enthusiasts worldwide.


The Lead Editor of Euronews Travel is responsible for the strategic direction, editorial planning, and day-to-day operations of all Euronews Travel content across digital platforms.


This senior editorial role is pivotal in maintaining and growing the brand's visibility, reputation, and audience engagement and will be a guardian of Euronews’ fundamental editorial values and Editorial Charter. The Lead Editor will lead a dynamic team of writers and contributors, ensure the delivery of compelling travel journalism, and collaborate with commercial and marketing teams to drive traffic and partnerships.


Main responsibilities:


Editorial Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute the editorial vision for Euronews Travel in line with company goals.
  • Plan and oversee a robust content calendar that aligns with seasonal trends, audience interests, SEO performance, and industry developments.
  • Define key audience growth metrics and work closely with the data/analytics team to monitor performance and adjust content strategy accordingly.


Content Oversight

  • Commission, edit, and publish engaging, high-quality digital content that drives traffic and engagement across Euronews Travel.
  • Write original articles, opinion pieces, and destination features as needed, with a focus on quality and impact.
  • Manage and expand a network of freelance contributors, ensuring consistent tone, style, and editorial standards.
  • Oversee all aspects of content production including sub-editing, multimedia integration, and quality control.


Budget & Workflow Management

  • Ensure the department’s commissioning/freelance budget is deployed to maximise impact and never exceeds its target
  • Manage and approve invoices in Paydesk and on Sage.
  • Lead a small in-house editorial team and maintain daily editorial workflows to meet publishing deadlines.
  • Provide feedback, mentoring, and support to team members and freelance writers.
  • Collaborate with other vertical leads and editorial teams to share best practices and align cross-platform content opportunities.


Industry Engagement & Representation

  • Represent Euronews Travel at key travel industry events, press trips, and media briefings.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with tourism boards, PR agencies, and commercial partners to enhance editorial offerings and secure exclusives.


Commercial & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Serve as the main editorial point of contact for Sales and Commercial teams for Euronews Travel.
  • Contribute to branded content campaigns and sponsored opportunities without compromising editorial integrity.
  • Participate in monthly meetings with the Sales/Commercial teams to align editorial and commercial strategies.
  • Attend weekly editorial leadership meetings and contribute to broader content and business strategy discussions.
  • Coordinate with design, video, and social teams to ensure cohesive storytelling across platforms.
  • In the absence of other vertical leads, provide interim support when necessary.


Prerequisites:


  • A degree in Journalism or equivalent (International Relations/Political Sciences…)
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in digital journalism or editorial leadership, preferably in the travel or lifestyle sector.
  • Proven experience managing or coordinating writers, freelancers, and cross-functional editorial teams.


Hard skills

  • Excellent command of English (C2 both spoken and written). Any additional language is highly appreciated.
  • Demonstrated ability to grow and engage digital audiences through high-quality content.
  • Strong editorial judgment and deep understanding of SEO, analytics tools (e.g. Chartbeat) and digital publishing platforms (e.g. Dalet Pyramid)
  • Excellent writing, editing, and commissioning skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Good teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Adaptability and flexibility in the face of unforeseen challenges


Soft skills

  • Passion for travel, innovation in tourism, and cultural storytelling.

Contract information:


  • Location: Doha, with permanent contact with editorial offices and the headquarters of Euronews
  • Contract: local fixed-term contract (rolling). To start at the earliest convenience and run through December 2026.
