Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Vascular Unit (CVU) Stepdown position at a Level I Trauma facility, requiring cardiac telemetry experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

  • Acute care stepdown unit (CVU) at a Level I Trauma facility
  • 18-bed unit focused on intermediate care and downgraded CVICU patients, supporting thoracic surgery, electrophysiology, cath lab, and structural heart programs
  • Common diagnoses include CVA, CHF, A-fib RVR, and other cardiac and vascular conditions
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including amio, nitro, nicardipine, epi, cardizem, and other blood pressure management medications
  • RT available 24/7; respiratory equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula
  • Remote telemetry techs available; RNs must independently read and interpret their own telemetry strips (hardwired and tele box capabilities)
  • Charge nurse present on each shift and rarely takes a patient assignment
  • Patient care techs available at a 1:18 ratio
  • Hospitalist and intensivist in house 24/7; cardiology on call after hours
  • EMR: Epic experience required
  • 12-hour day shifts, 0630–1900; night shifts available 1830–0700
  • Schedule managed by unit manager; no block or self-scheduling
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • Floating required to same-level and lower-acuity units

Requirements

  • Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • At least 1 year of experience with cardiac/vascular stepdown patient population required
  • Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips independently
  • Experience titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips required
  • Driver's license required for consideration (used to verify home address for radius compliance)
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

  • Provide intermediate cardiac and vascular nursing care, including titration of multiple drips and telemetry monitoring
  • Unit orientation is tailored to the individual's experience, typically 1–2 shifts on the unit
  • A pass/fail, open-book skills exam is administered on the Friday of orientation week; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass — failure results in contract termination
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
