American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a Critical Access Hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and a current MN RN license.

Acute care setting in an Emergency Department at a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) with Level IV trauma and stroke-ready designation
-
10-bed ED with 2 trauma bays, treating patients across the lifespan from newborn to geriatric
-
Common diagnoses include respiratory, cardiac, trauma, and stroke presentations
-
Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3, varying based on acuity
-
Separate triage room in use; competent triage skills are required
-
One locked seclusion room available for psychiatric patients
-
No in-house security; de-escalation skills and coordination with local law enforcement are expected
-
Averages 25–30 patients per day
-
Common drips include norepinephrine, nitroglycerin, heparin, amiodarone, and propofol
-
RNs are responsible for reading their own cardiac monitor strips (Philips monitors)
-
RNs must be able to initiate ventilator, BiPAP, or CPAP with verbal assistance from on-call RT if needed
-
RN accompaniment required for all stroke activations to CT
-
12-hour shifts, rotating days and nights (7a–7p / 7p–7a)
-
Scheduled shifts are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with every other weekend requirement
-
Schedule is released in 6-week blocks; day-to-night turnarounds are not scheduled

Holiday coverage required every other holiday
-
No on-call or standby requirements
-
No floating requirements

Charting via Epic

CNA/Tech support available from 1400–2230 (VS, transport prep, room turnover, stocking, EKGs, swabs, splinting)

RT available during day hours and on-call overnight for ABGs, EKGs, respiratory treatments, and vent/BiPAP management
-
Active MN RN license (State or Compact/NLC) required; pending licenses are not accepted

Required certifications (active, no pending accepted): BLS, ACLS, TNCC, and either ENPC or PALS
-
Minimum 2 years of Critical Access Hospital ED experience preferred

Competent triage skills required

Ability to read cardiac monitor strips independently

Ability to initiate ventilator, BiPAP, and CPAP support
-
Strong de-escalation skills required due to absence of in-house security
-
Must be a quick, independent learner and team player with strong practical skills; not reliant on ancillary resources

Driver's license required for consideration (used to verify permanent address)

2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address verified by driver's license)

Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year (PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable)

No Fast Track area; no separate holding area within the ED
-
One provider (MD, DO, or PA) is staffed in-house 24/7; no charge nurse on shift
-
Orientation is competency-based, not to exceed 4 shifts
-
No specific scrub color requirement; professional appearance expected
-
All requested time off must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after consideration

First-time travelers are not explicitly approved for this position given the preference for Critical Access ED experience
