Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a night shift travel contract at a Critical Access Hospital located approximately 40 miles southwest of Savannah, GA, requiring at least 2 years of ER experience and active GA or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Work setting is an acute care Critical Access Hospital (CAH) Emergency Department with 18 beds, including 3 trauma bays
  • Not a STEMI or stroke-receiving center; facility stabilizes and transfers trauma patients as needed
  • Patient volume averages 90 patients per day, with peak season volume reaching up to 140 patients per day
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is generally 1:4-5 depending on acuity
  • Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, back pain, lacerations, influenza, COVID, SOB, chest pain, stroke/CVA with TPA, psych, MVAs, DKA, sickle cell, and hypertension
  • Common drips include all standard ER and critical care drips
  • Telemetry monitoring is available in every room except safety rooms; RNs are required to read and interpret their own cardiac strips
  • No dedicated fast track area; triage area is available and travelers may work triage depending on experience
  • ER holds are managed within the main ER by ER nurses; no separate holding area
  • Two safety rooms available for psychiatric patients; in-house security on weekends with 24/7 coverage in progress
  • Staffed with MDs and mid-levels; charge nurse present on every shift and takes a patient assignment
  • PCTs available to assist with vitals, lab draws, splinting, and general tech duties
  • RT is on-site 24/7; RNs must be able to troubleshoot vents, BiPAP, CPAP, and related equipment
  • Radiology (X-ray and CT) available in-hospital 24/7; radiology staff handle transport
  • RNs and techs share lab draw responsibilities
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • No floating to other units required
  • Block scheduling and self-scheduling allowed, subject to manager approval
  • EMR system: TruBridge Evident (T-system for ED documentation)

Requirements

  • Active RN license in Georgia or a compact state currently in hand
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department RN experience required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS
  • TNCC preferred
  • Proficiency with IV placement and drip management required
  • Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
  • Ability to troubleshoot ventilators, BiPAP, and CPAP equipment
  • Ability to multitask and perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
  • Experience from smaller community hospitals or CAH settings preferred given the facility's high patient volume

Additional Information

  • ICU hold experience is preferred
  • Travel nursing experience is preferred but not required
  • Orientation consists of 3 shifts
  • Holidays are rotated with permanent staff
  • Scrub color requirement: Caribbean Blue; scrub jacket must be Caribbean Blue or white
  • Masking is required for unvaccinated staff (face mask and shield); vaccinated staff are not required to mask
  • Facility has a strong emphasis on customer service and patient satisfaction
  • Ultrasound and vein finder available for use in the ED
  • In-house pharmacy is available until 5p; a resource nurse mixes medications after hours using provided reference materials
  • The facility is located approximately 40 miles southwest of Savannah, GA, near the coast
