American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for an ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification.

Mixed ICU environment divided into pods, encompassing MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU, totaling 39 beds
-
Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma diagnoses such as ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma

Cardiac experience is preferred, particularly CABG/TAVR 24–48 hrs post-op, though not required for travelers

Patient ratios are 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 (rare), based on acuity

Shift schedule: 12-hour days, 48 hours per week

Every-other-weekend rotation is the goal, though not guaranteed

No on-call responsibilities

Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg and Tele at a 1:4 ratio

EMR: Epic (required); also uses Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell
-
Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) or compact license required
-
Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)

Minimum 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience, strongly preferred; candidates with at least 1.5 years of ICU experience (excluding travel) plus significant RN experience outside ICU may be considered on a case-by-case basis

Epic EMR experience required

Proficiency with IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry

Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
-
Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, all-critical-patient environment

Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration

DOB and SSN required for consideration

First-time travelers are not accepted; a minimum of one prior travel assignment is required

Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
-
Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning in a travel capacity
-
Orientation includes a hospital orientation session, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift on the ICU
-
Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), respiratory therapy available 24/7, and robust physician coverage (3 intensivists on days, 2 on nights plus an APP on nights)

Travelers will not be assigned fresh open-heart cases unless experienced and approved by the facility

May be expected to precept nursing students

Navy scrubs required

No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)

Time off requests of up to 7 days may be considered, provided the full 13-week contract can be completed
