American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg and Infectious Disease unit, requiring prior travel experience, Epic proficiency, and a WV or compact RN license.

18-bed Med/Surg and Infectious Disease unit, all private rooms
-
Patient population includes infectious disease, isolation, COVID, MRSA, C-Diff, and similar diagnoses
-
Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6 (1:4 for COVID patients); unit is typically staffed with 3–4 RNs per shift
-
2 CNAs per shift provide additional support
-
Common IV medications include Heparin, antibiotics, and standard Med/Surg IV drugs; no cardiac drips
-
Patients may be on CPAP, BiPAP, or high-flow oxygen, managed by Respiratory Therapy; no ventilator management required
-
Remote telemetry monitored from the 3rd floor; RNs are not required to read or interpret strips

Uses Epic EMR

12-hour night shifts (1900–0730) with a 30-minute lunch break
-
Every-other-weekend requirement; night weekend shifts are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

Travelers are the first to float and may be assigned to any Med/Surg unit; if floated to Telemetry, assignments will be within the RN's skillset

Holiday coverage may be required based on unit staffing needs

Active WV or compact RN license required

Current BLS certification (AHA) required

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

Prior travel nursing experience required

Epic EMR experience required

Strong knowledge of Med/Surg, infectious disease, and isolation precautions required

Valid driver's license copy required for consideration

Orientation consists of 1 day of Epic training, 1 day on the floor with a preceptor, and independent practice beginning on day 3

A charge nurse is available 24/7; night charge nurses carry a full patient assignment
-
Block scheduling is available provided unit needs are met; travelers are scheduled where needed
-
Scrub color is royal blue; scrub jackets must be royal blue if worn — no hoodies or non-scrub jackets permitted

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible (100 miles applies to one other WVU system location)

Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying

Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year before a 2-year break is required
-
Submission must include 7 years of work history (or from graduation, whichever is less), with no gaps greater than 30 days; each work history entry should include hospital size, unit size, trauma level, and teaching facility status

Two references are required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference; if the candidate worked at a permanent facility within the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
