American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week travel contract on an Ortho-Neuro Med/Surg unit, requiring at least 2 years of orthopedic nursing experience and Epic proficiency.

Acute care Med/Surg unit specializing in Orthopedics and Neurosurgery (4N Ortho-Neuro)
-
33-bed unit with all private rooms
-
Patient population includes elective orthopedic surgeries (hips, knees, shoulders), fractures, neurosurgeries (back and neck), and general Med/Surg cases
-
Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
-
Patient Care Techs (PCTs) support the unit with vitals, blood glucose checks, ADLs, and Foley catheter removal
-
Common equipment includes IV fluids and PCA pumps; no heparin or other titratable drips
-
CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen available, managed by Respiratory Therapy
-
Remote telemetry available if needed, monitored off-unit; RNs are not required to read strips

Charting is done in Epic (experience required)

12-hour day shifts, 0700–1930
-
Every-other-weekend requirement; day shift weekends are Saturday and Sunday

Travelers are first priority to float, with floating required to any Med/Surg unit; if floated to Telemetry, assignments will be within the nurse's skillset

Block scheduling is allowed provided unit needs are met

Active WV RN license or compact RN license currently in hand

Current BLS certification (AHA)

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

Orthopedic patient care experience required

PCA pump experience required

Epic EMR experience required

Valid driver's license copy required for consideration

Orientation consists of 1 day of Epic training followed by 1 day on the floor with a preceptor; independent practice begins on day 3

A Charge Nurse is present 24/7; day charge may carry a patient load, while night charge always carries a full assignment

Royal blue scrubs required; scrub jackets must be royal blue if worn — no hoodies or sweatshirts permitted

Holiday coverage may be required depending on unit staffing needs

Any time-off requests should be communicated upfront during the pre-screen process

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from this WVU facility to be eligible

Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
-
Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year before taking a 2-year break
