American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma, Academic Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring at least 2 years of med/surg telemetry experience and an active NC or compact RN license.

12-hour day shifts, 6:30 AM–7:00 PM (with possible evening shift 6:30 PM–6:30 AM)

29-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a 885-bed Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center
-
General medicine patient population including diabetes, GI, respiratory, renal, and wound care cases
-
RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6; CNA ratio of 1:9–10
-
Procedures include chest tube management, tracheostomy care, PIV starts, drain and tube management, and PCA pump management
-
Drip management includes Amiodarone, Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, and Heparin
-
Lab draws are a shared responsibility with RN and phlebotomy team
-
Centralized telemetry monitoring with dedicated telemetry tech support
-
EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
-
IV pumps: Alaris; Medication dispensing: Omnicell
-
Every other weekend rotation required
-
No on-call or call-back requirements
-
Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
-
Floating required to other Med/Surg units
-
6-week scheduling cycle; RTO requires manager approval
-
Active NC RN license or valid compact RN license currently in hand
-
Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
-
Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry (MST) experience required

Most recent experience must be within the last year
-
Experience reading and interpreting telemetry strips required
-
Proficiency with chest tubes, tracheostomies, PIV starts, drains and tubes, and PCA pumps
-
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
-
Ability to work collaboratively and tolerate moderate to high stress levels
-
At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
-
Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Provide direct and indirect patient care within a high-reliability, patient-centered unit culture emphasizing strong teamwork

Department support includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, rapid response team, RT (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7)

Orientation consists of a New Employee Orientation (NEO) period plus 2 days of departmental orientation

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted

Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
