American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a Clinical Decision Unit at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in North Carolina, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and Epic proficiency.

Clinical Decision Unit within a 241-licensed-bed, Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC

24-bed unit with an average daily census of 24

Patient population includes a variety of diagnoses including cardiac, respiratory, and neurological conditions in a fast-paced observation setting

RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6 on both day and night shifts, with potential surge ratios of up to 1:7-8

CNA support available at a 1:12 ratio; no HUC on unit

Charge nurse is always available as a resource and may carry a patient assignment
-
Additional support includes phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), on-site hospitalist (days) with virtual coverage evenings and overnight, intensivist (24/7), and remote telemetry monitoring with a tele tech

EMR: Epic — minimum 6 months of experience required

Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Masimo monitors in all rooms

12-hour night shifts starting at 6:45 PM, 36 hours per week

Every other weekend rotation required
-
Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
-
Floating is required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs — candidates who are not willing to float to all listed facilities should not apply

Low census call is possible; RNs may be called off for an entire shift or placed on call until 0300/1500

Active NC or compact RN license required

Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
-
Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
-
At least 6 months of Epic EMR experience required
-
Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation required
-
Experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone) required
-
General Med/Surg skillset required, including care of patients with tubes/drains, IV starts, blood product administration, and wound care/dressing changes

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted

Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration

Must be separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following a permanent employment position
