American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a float pool PCU position primarily supporting an ED hold unit, requiring 2 years of PCU experience and flexibility to float across multiple units on 12-hour day shifts.

Float pool position primarily supporting an ED hold unit, with assignments across PCU, Med-Surg, ICU, Rehab, and other inpatient units depending on daily needs

ED hold unit is fast-paced with mixed diagnoses, including isolation and non-ambulatory patients
-
PCU patient population includes respiratory compromise, sepsis, renal failure, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, bleeding disorders, and general medical/surgical cases

Patient ratios: ICU 1:2, PCU/CCU 1:4, Med-Surg 1:5, Rehab 1:8 (team model); PCU nurses floated to Med-Surg will carry a 1:5 ratio

IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis

12-hour day shifts, 36 hours per week

Weekend scheduling varies based on unit needs

No holiday requests or self-scheduling; on-call is not required

Floating required within scope of practice and to lower acuity units; partial-shift floats are possible

Schedule is provided 3 weeks at a time, distributed approximately 10 days before the schedule period begins

Active WA state or compact RN license required

Current BLS and ACLS certifications required

NIHSS certification required

Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required

Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required

Proficiency with PCU-level skills including chest tubes, lumbar drains, trachs, and IV medication titration (e.g., Amiodarone, Cardizem, nitroglycerin, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, insulin, and Cardene)

Strong communication and patient teaching/education skills required

Telemetry competency assessment required prior to starting

Two supervisor-level references required (Charge Nurse, Manager, Director, or above); one reference acceptable at time of consideration, with a second required prior to start

Primary assignment is the ED hold unit, caring for a mixed-acuity patient population including ICU-level, PCU-level, and Med-Surg-level patients within the same unit

Travelers must be flexible and resourceful, as unit assignments are determined each shift by calling the staffing office 30–45 minutes before the shift starts

Orientation includes 2 days of hospital-wide onboarding plus 1 day on the assigned unit; travelers receive up to 4 hours of orientation when floating to a new unit
-
Support staff include patient care techs, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalists (24/7), and intensivists (24/7)

Time off requests of up to 5 days may be approved; requests beyond 5 days require additional approval, and any approved time off may require extending the assignment end date
