American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at an academic teaching hospital in Indiana, requiring a minimum of 18 months experience, Cerner proficiency, and an IN or Compact RN license.

32-bed mixed-model cardio-pulmonary unit with 15 PCU beds and 17 Med-Surg beds, with an emphasis on pulmonary care

Primary patient population includes cardiac medical, valve replacement (cardiac and pulmonary), COPD, CHF, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, lung transplant (pre and post), trach-to-vent, neurodegenerative and cervical spinal fracture trauma patients requiring trach-to-vent, flu, TB, and COVID-19

PCU patient ratio is 1:4; Med-Surg ratio is 1:5-6; mixed PCU/Med-Surg assignments may range from 4-5 patients

Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30

Travelers are expected to work every other weekend per contract; consecutive weekends may be required based on operational needs

Floating required to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) within the hospital or to an affiliate hospital nearby; resources will be provided

Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned based on operational needs, with training and resources provided

Cerner EMR — experience required

Active IN or Compact RN license currently in hand

Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; both AHA and RQI formats accepted
-
Minimum 18 months to 2 years of RN experience required; Med-Surg RNs with ICU and PCU patient experience and at least 2 years of experience will also be considered

Cerner charting experience required

Graduation from a nursing program accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation

COVID-19 vaccination required; medical or religious exemptions accepted with supporting documentation

Local candidates are not accepted for this position

Indiana-licensed RNs are not eligible for this PCU position (IN RN exclusion policy in effect as of 11/30/24 — Compact license holders eligible if not holding a primary IN license)

Academic teaching facility — all travel nurses must be willing to precept and/or have students shadow them during their assignment

Up to 5 days of RTO may be auto-approved

Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays

Former permanent or PRN employees of IU Health must have been separated for at least 12 months before being eligible to work as a traveler
