American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma hospital in Alaska, requiring an active AK RN license and Epic proficiency.

PCU stepdown unit in a 407-bed acute care hospital that is a Magnet Facility, Level II Trauma Center, and USNWR Best Hospital in Alaska

Diverse patient population including approximately 30% cardiac (CHF, MI, post-TAVR/MVR, pacemaker, arrhythmia, ACS, Angiovac), respiratory (COVID, flu, COPD, asthma, trach >24h post-placement, chronic home ventilators, high-flow NC, BiPAP), neurological, renal, and complex medical-surgical patients (ETOH withdrawal, GIB, etc.)

Co-Care/Virtual Nursing Model: each patient is assigned one bedside RN, one virtual RN (remote), and one CNA

Bedside RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4; CNA-to-patient ratio is 1:6

Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30

Weekend coverage may be more frequent than every other weekend, subject to staffing needs

Floating required within scope to lower acuity units, renal care, neuro, and med-surg

Block scheduling is not available

Charting via Epic (experience required)

Scrubs provided by the facility

13-week contract

Active Alaska (AK) RN license required; pending license accepted, but license must be in hand prior to offer

Candidates with a pending AK RN license must be able to complete the application (including fingerprints, application fee, and submission) within 48 hours of signing

Minimum 1 year of PCU or comparable experience required

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS

Epic EMR experience required

Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Minimum of 2 supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting required for consideration

Full SSN and DOB required for consideration

The virtual RN works remotely and assists with admissions, discharges, rounding, patient education, plans of care, and safety rounds, while the bedside RN provides direct patient care

Travelers are expected to float between all facilities within the state of Alaska; refusal to float may result in assignment termination
-
All requested time off (RTO) must be disclosed upfront and is approved on an individual basis; minimal RTO is strongly preferred

Former permanent employees of this health system must wait at least 3 months before returning as a traveler
