Overview

The Treasurer serves as the chief fiscal officer for multiple high performing public schools, responsible for providing comprehensive financial leadership, oversight, and advisory services. This position combines operational excellence in accounting and compliance with strategic financial management to ensure the long-term fiscal health and accountability of client organizations.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Oversight

  • Supervise and mentor accounting and finance staff, providing guidance, performance feedback, and professional development.
  • Oversee financial operations across multiple client schools, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and adherence to policies.
  • Establish and enforce internal controls, accounting standards, and operational best practices.
  • Lead and model a culture of accuracy, accountability, and service excellence within the Mangen & Associates finance team.

Treasurer & Compliance Functions

  • Serve as the certified Treasurer for assigned client schools, bonded and authorized as a signatory on all bank accounts.
  • Certify the availability of funds for all approved requisitions in accordance with the school’s chart of accounts.
  • Maintain current charts of accounts in alignment with Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) requirements.
  • Oversee cash flow management, credit card administration, and benefits-related programs (e.g., BWC).
  • Ensure full compliance with all state and federal financial reporting regulations, audit standards, and sponsor requirements.
  • Coordinate and oversee annual financial audits, acting as the liaison with external auditors and regulatory agencies.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and present accurate, timely financial reports, including monthly fund balances, budget-to-actual analyses, and year-to-date performance summaries.
  • Develop and deliver financial reviews for client Boards and leadership teams.
  • Prepare and certify forecasts and annual budgets for each client.
  • Submit supplemental reports as required by Sponsors, the Auditor of State, or ODEW.
  • Provide data-informed insights and trend analyses to support decision-making and transparency.

Strategic Finance & Advisory

  • Deliver CFO-level advisory services, including long-term financial planning, enrollment and staffing modeling, and sustainability projections.
  • Lead multi-year financial planning and scenario modeling beyond the ODEW forecast to support strategic priorities.
  • Advise Boards and leadership teams on major fiscal decisions, such as capital projects, staffing investments, and contract arrangements.
  • Benchmark operating and financial metrics across comparable schools to identify efficiencies and growth opportunities.
  • Collaborate with leadership on strategic financial initiatives, ensuring alignment with academic, operational, and organizational goals.

Systems, Process, & Performance Improvement

  • Implement and maintain financial systems, tools, and dashboards (e.g., Mangen Metrics) to enhance accuracy, visibility, and responsiveness.
  • Design and refine processes for efficiency, compliance, and client satisfaction.
  • Develop and apply performance metrics to track responsiveness, turnaround times, and service delivery for both staff and clients.
  • Identify and lead opportunities for technology integration, automation, and continuous improvement.

Client Service & Communication

  • Serve as the primary financial liaison to client school Boards, Directors, and Sponsors.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive financial packets and reports for public Board meetings.
  • Conduct monthly financial reviews with Directors and Boards to inform decision-making.
  • Deliver professional training and workshops for school leaders, board members, and staff on financial literacy, compliance, and forecasting.
  • Maintain a high standard of professional communication, ethics, and service in all client interactions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Valid Ohio School Treasurer’s License
  • Bonded and in good standing with all background requirements (FBI and BCI)
  • Experience with state education finance systems and ODEW reporting
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple clients, projects, and deadlines with precision and professionalism

Pay: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
