Brief Description

Position Summary

Oncology Triage Nurse is responsible for providing telephone triage, clinical assessment, patient education, and care coordination for oncology patients receiving medical oncology and infusion services. Manages symptom-based patient calls, evaluates treatment-related toxicities, and collaborates with physicians and advanced practice providers to ensure timely and appropriate interventions. Reviews and processes medication refill requests, coordinates specialty pharmacy medications and required documentation, including prior authorization. Provides chemotherapy and immunotherapy education to patients and caregivers, reinforcing treatment plans and symptom management. Oversees genetic and pathology-related testing, including ordering, tracking, and follow-up of results. Serves as a key clinical resource for patients, caregivers, infusion staff, and providers by addressing clinical inquiries, facilitating outside orders and durable medical equipment requests, and ensuring continuity of care during staffing absences and periods of increased patient volume. Demonstrates strong clinical judgment, organizational skills, and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in an oncology practice.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an approved school.
  • Current Arizona Registered Nurse License.
  • Maintains current CPR Certification from the American Heart Association (Healthcare Provider) required or other approved educational programs
  • Current Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card (new hires must also complete the application process for this card before being released to their department, if applicable).
  • Supervisory experience
  • Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.
  • An understanding of computer systems, keyboard (typing 30 wpm), process design and data management.
  • Must have a well-groomed, professional appearance.
  • Must have the mental and physical ability to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to lift, carry, pull, & push 50 pounds.
  • Language proficiency in English, with excellent written and verbal fluency.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of recent hospital or ambulatory experience as a triage nurse
  • An understanding of computer systems, process design and data management.
  • Previous Meditech experience or other related electronic records systems.
  • Basic knowledge of system application implementation, enhancement, development and support methods and practices.
  • Oncology experience.
