PRIMARY DUTIES
1. Adhere strictly to FERPA and Western confidentiality policies.
2. Coordinates the daily operations for the department, including answering phones, emails, developing schedules for tutors and tests, scheduling tutoring and testing sessions, and coordinating drop-in tutoring services and tutoring services outside the center.
3. Seeks out, recruits and hires students to serve as peer tutors. Seeks out tutoring opportunities and responds to tutoring needs on campus, including meeting ADA students’ needs including working with Wellbeing and Accessibility.
4. Maintains employment and payroll records for the tutoring programs. Tracks and maintains historical information relevant to the Tutoring & Writing Center. Teaches CRLA certification non-credit course for tutors and ensures tutors meet requirements.
5. Develops, implements and, if necessary, modifies tutors’ schedules in the Tutoring & Writing Center to serve the needs of the student. Edits and updates website as needed.
6. Acts as a liaison with faculty, including the Writing Center lead, tutors, and students in connection with the daily operations of the Tutoring & Writing Center and Testing Center and the active promotion of their programs.
7. Schedule, administer, and proctor exams which may include placement, accommodations, online class, make-up, nursing, CLEP, proctoring for other schools, and others. May include group and/or individual testing sessions.
8. Obtain and maintain proctor certifications as required. Upload scheduled testing dates as required by test owners. Troubleshoot software applications with sponsor’s technical support and ensure processing equipment and computers are operational.
9. Research sites and requirements for new testing requests and make initial contact with new testing entities. Maintain updates for testing site and ensure technical requirements are met.
10. Enter all placement testing scores into Western’s student information system.
11. Informs supervisor of on-going operation challenges and problems involving tutoring and testing services.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associates degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience that has provided comparable knowledge and abilities may be acceptable.
  • Ability to work with diverse testers without regard to age, cultural background, religion, and/or economic status.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively communicate with students, faculty, staff and the public and to exercise sound judgment in all facets of the tutoring and testing process and environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, testing candidates, staff, and administrators and to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.

Equivalency Statement
For those who do not exactly meet all the minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities may be acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience with managing a test site or proctoring tests and supervising student workers.
  • Knowledge of peer tutoring and testing programs, or similar programs.
  • Familiarity with the full range of student services on campus.
  • Demonstrated working experience at a community college or business as indicated by references.

This is an 11 month position located on the Rock Springs campus. Evening and weekend hours may be required.
