UBMS Residential Assistants (Pool)

General Statement of Duties:

The UBMS Residential Assistants provide supervision of UBMS students during program activities, including dining hall duty, dorm duty, overseeing recreational time, and chaperoning field trips. The position requires staff to live in the dorms at Fitchburg State University, Monday-Friday for the entirety of the Summer Academy. There are five positions available for Summer 2026.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily supervision to high school students participating in pre-college residential program;
  • Lead students through small group and large group enrichment, academic, and recreational activities;
  • Assist students with academic assignments and projects from coursework;
  • Establish strong supportive and appropriate relationships with students;
  • Chaperone weekly field trips;
  • Conduct rounds after lights out;
  • Maintain adequate grant documentation, including attendance records, incident reports, and sign out logs;
  • Other duties as assigned by the college access advisor or the project director.

Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in or recent completion of an AA/AS/BS/BA program.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to program participants and parents/guardians.
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive Criminal Offender Record Investigation.
  • Sensitivity and maturity level to successfully work in a residential program with high school aged students.
  • Desire to help disadvantaged youth succeed.
  • Ability to interact with diverse constituencies including program personnel, Fitchburg State University personnel, parents/guardians and students.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in or recent completion of STEM program.
  • Experience participating in a TRIO program such as Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math Science, Talent Search or similar pre-college program.
  • Experience in tutoring in college-level math and science course and/or conducting college level math and science research.
  • Experience as a collegiate residential assistant.

Additional Information:

This position will begin on June 22, 2026 and end on August 1, 2026. From June 22-June 26, 2026, staff will be in training. From June 29, 2026 -July 31, 2026, staff will be provided with housing. Meals will also be provided from lunch on Monday through lunch on Friday each week. No meals are provided when students are not present. Students will not be present on Friday, July 3, 2026 in observance of July 4th

The UBMS project covers all admissions, meals, and transportation for all field trip chaperones.
