About the Role
Constellation Payments is seeking an Underwriter responsible for evaluating merchant applications, verifying compliance requirements, and assessing risk to ensure the integrity of our merchant portfolio. You will work closely with the Underwriting & Risk Lead, Sales, and internal stakeholders to execute thorough reviews and deliver clear, well‑supported underwriting decisions. This role is essential in protecting the organization while ensuring a smooth and compliant onboarding process.

What You’ll Do
  • Review and underwrite new merchant applications and account changes using established underwriting policies and risk guidelines.
  • Evaluate KYC/KYB documentation, business models, ownership structures, and industry classifications to identify potential risk indicators.
  • Analyze financial documents, credit reports, processing history, and supporting materials to determine merchant suitability.
  • Collaborate with the Underwriting & Risk Lead on complex cases, documentation gaps, or policy exceptions.
  • Partner with Sales and Partner teams to clarify application details and ensure all required information is complete and accurate.
  • Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and professionally, including approvals and declines.
  • Ensure compliance with card brand rules, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate internal documentation and contribute to updates of underwriting procedures as needed.
  • Support periodic audits and internal reviews led by the Underwriting & Risk Lead.
  • Perform additional responsibilities assigned by leadership to support departmental and organizational objectives.

Basic Qualifications
  • 2–4 years of experience in underwriting, risk assessment, merchant onboarding, or financial services.
  • Strong understanding of merchant acquiring, payments risk, and card brand rules.
  • Ability to interpret financial documents, credit reports, and application details to assess risk.
  • Experience with KYC/KYB, AML red flags, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, decision‑making, and documentation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Experience with underwriting systems and verification tools.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in payments underwriting, fintech underwriting, or merchant risk evaluation.
  • Familiarity with high‑risk business categories and enhanced verification practices.
  • Knowledge of PCI compliance and merchant acquiring processes.
  • Experience working with ISOs, payment facilitators, or gateway providers.
  • Basic exposure to data tools or SQL (nice to have).

Work Location & Flexibility
Constellation Payments operates on a 100% remote‑first model, enabling employees to work from home or any approved location within the hiring country.
