Key Responsibilities

The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is seeking up to 4 motivated and highly skilled Unemployment Insurance Claims (UI) and Re-Employment Specialist's to join the UI team. This position will require several weeks of initial in-person training that will take place in Salt Lake City. Part-time teleworking is offered after initial training and with demonstrated proficiency in the job. Employees in this position will take incoming calls and gather information from customers who are in need of filing for unemployment benefits, and will conduct face to face meetings with customers to assist them in their re-employment efforts. You will be required to travel to and/or work from a central office in Salt Lake City, and/or your nearest State of Utah DWS Employment Center 2 days per week.

Principal Duties
The Unemployment Insurance Claims and Re-Employment Specialist will perform the following duties:

  • Provides clients with information concerning rights, options, benefits, services, goals and expectations.
  • Collects and reviews client information to determine clients'/applicants' eligibility and options.
  • Acts as a resource to provide information or determine the most effective way of meeting the needs of management, staff, clients or customers.
  • Maintains accurate records and logs.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines.
  • Receives, researches and responds to incoming questions or complaints; provides information, explains policy and procedures and/or facilitates a resolution.
  • Counsels clients and prospective clients; screens referrals and provides community outreach.

  • Has outstanding customer service skills.
  • Has the ability to work on chats, phones, audits, emails and online video appointments daily.
  • A High School Diploma

Preferences
Preference may be given for the following:

  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher.
