Job Description

We are seeking an experienced UX Design Lead to drive user-centered, data-informed digital experiences that serve a diverse public audience. This role is a strategic leadership position focused on improving access to critical digital services through thoughtful interaction design, usability testing, and iterative improvement.

The UX Design Lead will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to enhance a consumer-facing digital platform that provides information, referrals, and services related to childcare access. The platform is nearing launch, and this role will be instrumental in final design refinements, post-launch optimization, and the development of new features for a future release.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and advocate for user-driven, data-based design decisions

  • Collaborate with product managers, UX researchers, content strategists, and developers to translate user needs into effective design solutions

  • Develop interactive prototypes and high-fidelity designs for a consumer-facing web platform

  • Conduct prototype testing for new features, analyze findings, and provide actionable design recommendations

  • Partner with content strategists to shape content design and improve overall user experience

  • Support launch readiness through final design adjustments and visual QA

  • Track and analyze performance metrics post-launch to inform design refinements

  • Design, test, and integrate new features for future platform versions

Mandatory Skills & Experience

Candidates must meet all required qualifications to be considered.

  • Minimum 8 years of professional UX design experience with a strong portfolio of successful, consumer-facing digital products

  • Portfolio link must be included on resume

  • Strong visual design skills, including typography, layout, spacing, and styling

  • Advanced proficiency in Figma, with demonstrated experience creating end-to-end design solutions independently

  • Deep understanding of user-centered design processes, including journey mapping, low- to high-fidelity mockups, and testable prototypes

  • Ability to synthesize user research and data into design hypotheses and solutions

  • Experience incorporating peer and stakeholder feedback into design iterations

  • Proven collaboration with product and content strategists to translate requirements into design outcomes

  • Experience working closely with developers to test prototypes and conduct visual quality assurance

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain design concepts to non-technical audiences

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Design, UX Design, HCI, Computer Science, or related)

  • Experience working on cross-disciplinary teams delivering user-centered digital products

  • Prior work in the public sector or with government partners

  • Ability to lead design projects from concept through implementation

  • Experience conducting or supporting usability testing and interpreting research findings

  • Familiarity working within constrained or evolving design systems

  • Strong knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design best practices

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in design work

  • Ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders across large organizations
