Scope of Services

Seeking an experienced UX Design Lead to champion user-centered, data-driven digital experiences for residents across the city. This role will lead design efforts for a high-impact, consumer-facing digital platform focused on improving access to child care information and services.

The UX Design Lead will work closely with cross-functional teams—including product, research, content, and engineering—to refine and finalize designs ahead of platform launch, while also planning, prototyping, and testing enhancements for a future version release. Post-launch, the role will focus on performance analysis, design iteration, and integration of new features.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product managers, UX researchers, content strategists, and developers to translate user needs into effective design solutions

  • Create interactive prototypes and high-fidelity designs for a public-facing web platform

  • Conduct prototype testing, analyze findings, and develop actionable design recommendations

  • Partner with content strategists to define and implement an effective content design strategy

  • Support final design adjustments leading up to launch and contribute to the roadmap for subsequent versions

  • Track performance metrics post-launch and refine designs based on user behavior and data insights

Mandatory Skills & Experience

(Candidates lacking mandatory qualifications will not be considered)

  • Minimum 8 years of professional UX design experience, supported by a strong portfolio of consumer-facing digital solutions

  • Portfolio link must be included in the resume

  • Strong visual design skills, including typography, layout, spacing, and overall styling

  • Advanced proficiency in Figma, with demonstrated experience delivering end-to-end design solutions independently

  • Deep understanding of user-centered design processes, including journey mapping, low-to-high fidelity wireframing, and prototype development

  • Ability to synthesize user research and data insights into testable design hypotheses and solutions

  • Strong collaboration skills, including incorporating feedback from teammates and stakeholders to improve design outcomes

  • Experience partnering with product managers and content strategists to translate requirements into design solutions

  • Experience working closely with developers to validate prototypes and conduct visual QA to ensure design fidelity

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate design concepts and strategies to non-technical audiences

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., UX Design, Interaction Design, HCI, Computer Science)

  • Experience working in cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams

  • Prior experience in public-sector projects or collaborating with government partners

  • Proven ability to lead design initiatives from concept through implementation

  • Experience conducting or supporting usability testing and translating findings into actionable insights

  • Familiarity working within constrained or evolving design systems

  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design best practices

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in design practice
