Van Driver / Scheduler (CNA preferred)

The Van Driver / Scheduler is responsible for safely transporting residents to and from medical appointments, community outings, and facility-related activities while ensuring comfort, safety, and dignity. This role also coordinates transportation schedules, communicates with healthcare providers, and assists nursing staff as needed. A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification is preferred to support resident care during transportation and while in the facility.

Key Responsibilities

Transportation Duties

  • Safely transport residents to medical appointments, dialysis, therapy, hospital visits, and approved outings.

  • Assist residents with entering and exiting the vehicle, including wheelchair securement and use of lifts when necessary.

  • Ensure residents are properly secured with seat belts and safety devices during transport.

  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure routine inspections and maintenance checks are completed.

  • Follow all state, federal, and facility safety and transportation regulations.

  • Report accidents, incidents, or mechanical issues promptly.

Scheduling & Coordination

  • Coordinate and schedule resident transportation appointments with hospitals, physician offices, and outpatient services.

  • Maintain accurate transportation logs and schedules.

  • Communicate appointment times and transportation arrangements with nursing staff and families when appropriate.

  • Monitor changes to appointments and adjust transportation schedules accordingly.

  • Ensure timely arrivals and departures to minimize resident wait times.

Resident Support (CNA Preferred)

  • Assist residents with basic care needs during transport or while awaiting appointments (as permitted by certification).

  • Observe and report changes in resident condition to nursing staff.

  • Support nursing staff with resident assistance when not performing transportation duties.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification preferred

  • Previous experience in healthcare transportation, nursing homes, or senior care preferred

  • Ability to safely operate wheelchair-accessible vans
