Variety is looking for a Motion Designer / Editor to bring deep postproduction expertise to Variety's Editorial Video operation. This individual should live and breathe entertainment news, understand Hollywood and its history, as well as the current trends in the industry.

The Motion Designer / Video Editor will primarily edit episodes of Variety's ongoing series, define Variety's graphics style on video, and ideate and launch concepts that utilize graphics as the main vehicle for storytelling. One day could be spent designing a graphics template for Variety's 'Directors on Directors,' the next could be editing a 'Know Their Lines' video, and the third could be creating a graphical explainer about the box office.

The role will report to Variety's Head of Video.

Key attributes:

  • Unparalleled understanding of Adobe Premiere & After Effects and the rest of the Creative Suite
  • Skills in timeline management for postproduction, working on deadline and managing multiple projects at once
  • Collaborative work style in which communication and feedback are sought after to produce the highest quality work
  • Establishes design style, builds templates, and sets design standards that work across platforms
  • Edits & animates video content using a range of motion design styles, integrating 2D and 3D animation
  • Partners with external freelancers as the team manages projects in larger scope
  • Organizes internal archiving systems to make sure projects are backed up properly

As Variety values in-person collaboration and team cohesion, employees work onsite 4 days a week and 1 day remotely with a focus on maintaining a vibrant and inclusive culture.

A good faith estimate of the salary range is $75,000k upon hire.
