Vascular Surgery Billing Specialist

Job Overview
The Billing Specialist is responsible for accurate, timely, and compliant billing for a high-volume vascular clinic, including office visits, OBL procedures, and hospital-based cases. This role plays a critical part in optimizing revenue cycle performance, minimizing denials, and ensuring clean claims submission while maintaining compliance with payer and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in vascular CPT/ICD-10 coding, modifier usage, and payer rules, with proactive, detail-oriented approach to revenue integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

Billing & Coding

· Prepare, review, and submit professional and technical claims through Greenway Health

· Assign accurate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes with appropriate modifiers for:

-Office-based clinic visits

-OBL procedures (endovascular, dialysis access, atherectomy, angiography, stents, etc.)

-Hospital-based inpatient and outpatient cases

· Review operative reports and clinical documentation to support billable services

· Validate charges against provider documentation prior to claim submission

Claims Management

· Submit clean claims in a timely manner and monitor claim status in Greenway

· Identify, research, and resolve claim denials, rejections, and underpayments

· Initiate appeals and provide supporting documentation when needed

· Track trends in denials and collaborative with leadership to implement corrective actions

Accounts Receivables (A/R)

· Follow up on unpaid or delayed claims to ensure timely reimbursement

· Post payments, adjustments, and contractual allowances accurately in Greenway

· Reconcile EOBs and ERA postings

· Escalate unresolved issues to payers or leadership as appropriate

Compliance & Accuracy

· Maintain compliance with CMS, Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer regulations

· Maintain and adhere to NCCI edits, LCDs, and payer-specific billing rules

· Support internal audits and external payer audits when needed

· Stay current on vascular coding and reimbursement updates

Collaboration & Communication

· Work closely with physicians, clinical staff, billing manager, and practice leadership to clarify documentation and resolve billing issues

· Provide education and feedback to providers on documentation improvement opportunities

· Assist with workflow optimization and process improvement initiatives within the revenue cycle

Required Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent

· 3+ years of medical billing experience, with vascular surgery experience strongly preferred

· Demonstrated knowledge of:

-Vascular surgery CPT and ICD-10 coding

-OBL and hospital-based billing workflows

-Medicare and Commercial Payer Rules

· Proficiency with EMR and practice management systems

· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

· Certified Professional Coder (CPC, CCS, or equivalent)

· Experience with:

-Greenway Health

-Office-Based Labs (OBLs)

-Dialysis access procedures

-Endovascular interventions

-Modifier-heavy vascular claims

· Familiarity with payer audits and appeals

· Experience in physician-owned or surgical specialty practice
