Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
Veterans Benefits Manager provides core services to USC’s student veterans regarding benefits certification including but not limited to providing support services to student veterans seeking benefits; processing of VA education benefits through VA Enrollment Manager and coding students in Banner Student Information System; handling escalated issues; conducting internal audits and responding successfully to external audits; providing reports on student veterans and benefits usage; and providing resources to the campus community on veterans benefits.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 5 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous enrollment management experience and experience with Banner Student Information systems.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities, work under pressure, solve complex problems, make decisions and ensure that processes meet service deadlines, expectations and goals.
  • Demonstrated initiative, be able to work well individually and in team settings, and should possess an outgoing, dynamic and flexible character.
  • Demonstrated leader with supervisory experience.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, keyboarding, data entry, word processing and communications skills both written and oral.

Veterans Benefits Services
Coordinates the Enrollment Certification process according to Veteran’s Affairs regulations in both VA Once and the Banner Student Information System. Works with the University Registrar to integrate and strengthen Veteran Services data processing and service delivery into overall registrar’s staffing. Serves as a point of contact for veteran’s benefits concerns. Manages the application process for a student veterans scholarship and a student veteran hardship fund.

The position is responsible for ensuring that veterans benefits are processed according to all federal and state regulations. The position is responsible for submitting all appropriate regulatory reports and serves as a lead on routine internal and external audits. As the School Certifying Official, the position is the primary liaison for the Chapter 31 Vocation Rehabilitation and Employment program as well as CHE and VA representatives.

Assists OIRAA with the completion of external reports and surveys pertaining to veterans services and the student veteran population.
