Veterinary assistant needed for an AAHA accredited veterinary hospital in Clovis, NM.
Clovis Veterinary Hospital is currently seeking an individual who demonstrates a passion for animal care with a can-do attitude.
Candidate must be responsible, eager to learn, caring, detail oriented and work well in a team setting. Professionalism, a positive attitude and great customer services skills are required. This position will require some evenings, holidays, and weekends. Experience is preferred but not necessary.
Major Duties:
- Our veterinary assistants are responsible for in-patient medical care - administer medications, assist or perform treatments, diagnostics & monitoring. Place IV catheters, draw blood, run lab test, administer IV fluids, cleaning, feeding and walking patients as needed.
- Anesthesia/Surgery - Our veterinary assistants prep, maintain, monitor and recover surgical patients. Clean/maintain/sterilize anesthesia equipment and surgical instruments.
- Dentistry - Our veterinary assistants provide patient dental care, ultrasonic cleaning and polishing, and assist the doctor with oral surgery.
- Radiology - Our veterinary assistants position patients and assist with radiographs, ultrasounds and send radiographs via email.
- Laboratory Duties - our veterinary assistants are responsible for collecting, preparing and running or submitting samples for requested test; reading and recording results when indicated and requested by doctor.
- Our veterinary assistants are responsible for discharging surgical/hospital patients and using client information tools.
- Client medical demonstrations/education - teach & educated clients on at home care procedures.
- Veterinary Assistant appointments - blood draws for therapeutic monitoring/screening test, nail trims etc.
- Assisting doctor with outpatient appointments, preparing, restocking, cleaning exam rooms, check patients in and out, take history and vitals, input data into patient medical record, endure a smooth and timely flow of outpatient appointments from check-in to discharge.
- Assist with inventory control - informing inventory manager when products are getting low/out, unpacking drug and medical supplies.
- Preparing prescriptions - dispensed medications and medication refills
- Cleaning/maintenance of equipment and facility

Physical requirements:
- The veterinary assistant must have the ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds and over 50 pounds with a coworker.
- The veterinary assistant must be able to endure sitting, standing and walking on hard surfaces for extended periods of time.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to demonstrate patience and composure in stressful situations, and ability to handle a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
- Ability to give SQ, IM and IV injections

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
