Veterinary Receptionist / Technician (Assistant)

Duties

  • Welcome clients and their pets with warmth, ensuring a smooth check-in and check-out process at the front desk
  • Schedule appointments, answer phone inquiries, and manage patient records efficiently using veterinary software
  • Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians with animal restraint, medication administration, and basic animal handling procedures
  • Support animal husbandry tasks such as feeding, cleaning, and monitoring animals’ health status in kennels or treatment areas
  • Prepare animals for examinations or procedures by applying aseptic techniques and ensuring proper restraint
  • Assist with laboratory work including sample collection, processing, and basic diagnostic testing under supervision
  • Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment adhering to safety and infection control protocols
  • Provide compassionate pet care education to clients about animal physiology, anatomy, nutrition, and general health needs

Skills

  • Proven kennel experience coupled with animal husbandry skills to ensure optimal care of hospitalized or boarding animals
  • Veterinary technician experience with knowledge of veterinary terminology, critical care procedures, and laboratory techniques
  • Strong animal handling skills including dog handling, equine experience, and animal restraint techniques
  • Ability to administer medications accurately and perform animal catheterization when needed
  • Familiarity with pet care practices such as feeding routines, grooming, and basic first aid
  • Experience working at the front desk managing appointments, client communication, and record keeping in a veterinary clinic setting
  • Knowledge of animal physiology, anatomy, aseptic techniques, and laboratory procedures to support clinical operations
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with clients and team members in a fast-paced environment
