This is a premier opportunity for a seasoned facilities executive who understands the complexities of operating a large luxury resort in Hawaii and is committed to preserving excellence across all aspects of the property.

Our client is presently looking for an experienced and highly qualified Vice President to oversee all engineering, maintenance, and facilities operations for a large luxury resort complex in Hawaii. This leadership role requires a hands-on professional with extensive experience in comparable large-scale luxury resorts or hotels, ideally within Hawaii.

The Director of Facilities will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of operational excellence, asset protection, safety, and guest comfort across a multi-unit property. The ideal candidate is a technically strong leader with deep knowledge of resort infrastructure, tropical climate challenges, and the unique operational requirements of Hawaiian properties.

U.S. citizenship is mandatory. Hawaii resort experience is required.

Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizen (mandatory).
  • Extensive hands-on experience in large luxury resorts or hotels.
  • Mandatory Hawaii resort experience with strong understanding of local regulations and environmental conditions.
  • Proven experience managing large, complex, multi-unit properties.
  • Minimum 10–15 years of progressive facilities or engineering leadership experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building systems.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing renovations and capital projects.
  • Degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related technical field preferred.
  • Relevant professional licenses or certifications strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on leader with strong work ethic and willingness to work extended hours when required.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Calm under pressure with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Committed to maintaining luxury standards and exceptional guest experiences.

Responsibilities:

Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • Lead all facilities, engineering, and maintenance operations across the resort complex.
  • Oversee multi-unit facilities including guest accommodations, restaurants and bars, spa and wellness centers, pools, recreation areas, event spaces, back-of-house operations, and central plant systems.
  • Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs to ensure seamless operations and protect asset value.
  • Partner with executive leadership to support long-term capital planning and infrastructure improvements.

Technical Oversight

  • Direct maintenance and operation of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, water treatment systems, fire life safety systems, and building automation systems.
  • Ensure operational readiness of food and beverage facilities, commercial kitchens, and high-volume banquet operations.
  • Address climate-related facility challenges including salt-air corrosion, humidity control, and storm preparedness.
  • Oversee renovation projects, contractor management, and large-scale upgrades.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA and Hawaii-specific codes.
  • Maintain rigorous safety standards and emergency preparedness programs.
  • Oversee inspections, permits, certifications, and environmental compliance initiatives.

Financial & Asset Management

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets and capital expenditure plans.
  • Monitor energy management systems and lead sustainability initiatives.
  • Drive cost control measures without compromising luxury standards.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering and facilities team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and service excellence.
  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the resort and remain hands-on in daily operations.
  • Work closely with Rooms, Food & Beverage, Security, and other operational leaders.
