POSITION OVERVIEW

The Vice President of the Office of Research Strategy is responsible for the development, strategic oversight, and administration of the organization's portfolio of assessment research initiatives. This role ensures alignment with institutional goals and serves as the primary research subject matter expert on the innovation leadership team. The VP fosters a culture of innovation internally and promotes collaboration with the external research community. Working collaboratively with internal functional units, the VP will lead initiatives to develop or evaluate assessment capabilities and define constructs necessary to support existing and enable new assessment products.

This role has been designated as primarily remote, meaning it requires little to no onsite attendance. While this role can be designated as remote, you are offered the flexibility to select if you prefer to work primarily remotely, hybrid, or onsite. Only candidates residing in DE, MD, NJ, or PA will be considered

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, mentor, and manage research resources: Recruit, manage, and support research team members to achieve their full potential. Foster professional development and ensure a collaborative and innovative work environment. Manage resources effectively to support research activities.
  • Research policy, administration, and priorities: Oversee research administrative policy and develop processes for implementation. Create schema for classifying and tracking research initiatives. Periodically assess research priorities and recommend modifications based on progress, trends, and organizational needs.
  • Strategic leadership : Provide the strategic direction for the research agendas and work to develop new, creative approaches to innovation research. Align research initiatives with NBME strategic priorities. Serve as the primary research subject matter expert on the innovation leadership team. Stay current on assessment and data science best practices. External Engagement: Enhance NBME reputation by raising the external visibility of our research achievements. Develop relationships with the medical education and assessment research communities to identify collaboration opportunities. Develop strategic approach to presentation and publishing. Lead or consult on research agendas as principal investigator where appropriate. Present and publish research in academic forums.Leverage media opportunities and educate internal staff.


QUALIFICATIONS

Skills and Abilities

  • Deep understanding of assessment best practices and trends, preferably in medical education and healthcare assessment.
  • Strong leadership and strategic vision to align research initiatives with institutional goals.
  • Excellent collaboration and networking skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, in both written and verbal formats.
  • Innovation and problem-solving skills for developing and evaluating new assessment capabilities.
  • Expertise in leading, mentoring, and managing research resources.


Experience

  • Requires a minimum of 8 years of progressive managerial experience, demonstrating strong business acumen and the leadership capabilities necessary to head a major function or division.


Education

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D., M.D., J.D, Ed.D)
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) designation is desirable

Compensation we are offering for this position is at $235,809-294,761/year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
