Who We Are
The mission of the Denver DA’s Office is to protect the community, to seek equal justice for all, and to improve the quality and fairness of criminal justice on behalf of the people of Colorado. We achieve that mission through excellence in our work investigating and prosecuting crime, supporting victims and their families, working with the community to prevent crime, and providing fair alternatives to incarceration in appropriate cases. The elected District Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer in the City and County of Denver, and is responsible for the prosecution of violations of Colorado State Laws. The current Denver District Attorney is John Walsh.
Location
This position reports on site from 8:00AM to 5:00PM at the Republic Plaza building located at 370 17th St suite 5300 Denver, CO 80202.
What You’ll Do
We are currently seeking a qualified candidate for the role of the Victim Advocate II. As a Victim Advocate II, you will provide advocacy, peer support and assistance to the victims, witnesses and survivors of violent and non-violent crimes and assist with trial preparation.
Day-to-day job duties include:
  • Assist with all witnesses at trial, including experts, law enforcement, and medical personnel
  • Provides support to victims of crime and their families who attend trial.
  • Assists with trial preparation and after the offender has either been found guilty or not guilty or has pled guilty to an offense and is sentenced to probation, jail, or to the DOC.
  • Contacts crime victims by phone or mail to provide information, victim impact statements
  • Reviews criminal justice documents, reports, and information
  • Coordinates with other professionals (i.e., investigators, prosecutors, and other resource referrals) to assist/support victims and to communicate with victims about their experiences.
  • Reinforces victims’ rights, provide information and resources throughout the criminal justice process, and address questions involving criminal justice and intersecting system navigation with a trauma informed emphasis on victim/witness safety.
  • Assesses victim needs, makes referrals and collaborates with community service organizations
  • Maintains contact with victim/witnesses to keep them updated on case status, and assists victims with such things as translator service, therapy referral, transportation arrangements to and from court, protective orders, emergency funds, and temporary housing/shelter programs
  • Ensures services to clients are in compliance with Colorado Victims Rights Act
Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education Requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Criminal Justice, or related field.
  • Experience Requirement: Four (4) years of paid or volunteer human services experience providing casework, case management or trauma services to the victims of violent or non-violent crimes.
  • Education and Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
