Victim Services Attorney: Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault
Position Summary
The victim services attorney assists victims with legal services addressing the complex and expansive nature of legal needs victims have resulting from interpersonal violence. The attorney assists victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in CVP’s 10-county service area with issues related to victim safety and recovery including civil and criminal law issues.
Responsibilities
· Meet with victims to assess and determine individual needs.
· Draft petitions and motions.
· Represent clients on a variety of issues in civil and criminal court.
· Connect clients with related resources to aid with legal needs.
· File petitions for represent clients through legal processes.
· Travel to appropriate jurisdictions for hearings.
· Accompany victims to interviews with law enforcement and prosecutors.
· Develop a network of contacts, legal service providers, and referrals sources in the designated region to assist victims.
· Collaborate with partnered agencies to facilitate services.
· Collaborate with therapists and other treatment team members to assist clients in the development of case plans.
· Coordinate services to accomplish client and program goals.
· Conduct regular audits of case plans to evaluate progress, obstacles, and limitations.
· Document client services and activities in compliance with CVP policies and procedures.
· Participate in regular team meetings about client progress.
· Attend relevant trainings to improve capacity and competency.
· Promote a sense of community by teaching and modeling cooperation, respect, and responsibility in the residential environment.
· Adhere to all policies and procedures established by CVP.
· Other duties as assigned.
Required Background
· Licensed attorney in the State of Mississippi.
· Possesses a minimum of 3 years of experience in practicing criminal and civil law.
· Possess good organization, written, and oral communication skills.
· Pass a criminal background check.
· Possess a valid Mississippi driver’s license and have a clear motor vehicle record (MVR).

· Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
· Must be able to understand and work within the team model.
· Understands the dynamics of trauma-informed care and has the ability to identify and respond to victims of violence.
· Demonstrates the ability to exercise and model healthy boundaries with clients and others.
· Maintains professional working relationships with staff and program stakeholders.
· Possesses strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
· Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
· Must be able to operate a computer, multi-line phone, and other office equipment.
Salary/Hours
· Salary is dependent on experience and education.
· Hours are fulltime and require flexibility and occasional emergency consultation.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
