The 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office has an exciting opportunity for a Victim Services Coordinator (VSC). The VSC will operate across the 5th Judicial District Counties.

The VSC performs specialized advising, and/or providing crisis intervention and comfort to victims and witnesses of crimes reported to the District Attorney’s office. VSC may refer victims and witnesses to supportive agency programs, will serve as liaison between the victim and/or witness with law enforcement agencies, and provide follow-up assistance to address victim’s needs. The job also involves notifying crime victims of their rights under state laws and assisting victims with applications for Crime Victim Compensation. In this hands-on and fast paced environment, we focus on teamwork, building relationships and putting people first.

The duties of a VSC include providing direct services to victims of crime; act as the liaison between the victim, the prosecutor, and law enforcement officials; advise victims of legal proceedings and assist as they navigate through the criminal court process; accompany victims in criminal proceedings as requested; explaining the Criminal Court process and procedures and the meaning of legal terminology to victims and witnesses in lay terms; supports deputy district attorneys in the prosecution of criminal cases through a variety of activities including caseload management, education and referrals.

Knowledge of:

  • the role and function of law enforcement, judicial and legal agencies;
  • basic judicial procedures and court documents;
  • Sexual Assault Training;
  • the principles of interviewing and other information-gathering techniques.

Ability to:

  • interpret and explain laws, rights, policies and procedures;
  • maintain records, prepare reports and correspondence, and related work;
  • organize time and resources to achieve deadlines and goals;

  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with victims, families, non-custodial parents, co-workers, court staff, and public officials;
  • maintain confidential clients' records;
  • navigate crisis and trauma;
  • participate in training to stay current on issues, resources, and networking

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $28.00 per hour
