DUTIES:
This position is located in the Victim/Witness Division of the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney which is responsible for providing assistance to victims and witnesses of crime, including: crisis counseling, social service referral, outreach and support services to district, circuit, and/or family court cases. Participates in and supervises one or a combination of the major victim/witness activities involving Screening/Intake, Misdemeanor/Traffic, Trials, Career Criminal, Elder Abuse, and/or Sex Assault/Domestic Violence/Juvenile Offender. May rotate assignments and supervision with the other Victim/Witness Counselor III's.
The position requires a thorough knowledge of principles and practices of supervision; principles of human and public relations; crisis intervention, counseling and psycho-therapeutic techniques; interviewing methods and techniques; governmental agencies and community organizations that provide pertinent social services, benefits and other human resource assistance; court procedures and pertinent legal instruments applicable to the program; laws, rules and regulations governing the State Criminal Injuries Compensation Commission; report writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, counseling, psychology or a related field and three years of professional counseling experience in a program which provided social services or mental health services, to include crises counseling, two of which shall have related to the criminal justice system.
Education Substitution: A Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a similar closely related degree will substitute for one year of professional counseling experience in a program which provided social services or mental health services, to include crisis counseling. There is no substitution for the specific required professional counseling experience related to the criminal justice system.
