Duties

The Police Video Evidence Technician performs data entry, utilizes department records management system to document request and ultimately the release of digital media. The PVET is also responsible for monitoring and fulfilling requests for digital evidence in compliance with various laws, rules, codes and regulations.


  • Create case files and maintain evidence in an electronic environment. This includes tagging video that has no specific evidence but must be retained, ensuring the integrity of the digital video program by reassigning video priorities, and assigning or re-assigning videos to officers, and reactivating archived videos and restoring to an on-line status.
  • Responsible for burning copies or sharing links of video evidence for both external and internal customers, including City and District Prosecutors.
  • Maintain original request for video evidence and burned copies.
  • Maintain the Rimage and PC in a production status and troubleshooting when errors occur.
  • Responsible for informing the supervisor of supplies needed for video programs as needed.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of laws and regulations. Maintains an awareness of new laws and advances in the profession.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 year of job-related experience in information technology, or related field.
  • Experience with video editing software and/or equipment
  • Experience in developing training materials and training end users.
  • Knowledge of a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

PHYSICAL ABILITY:
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Task may involve extended periods of time at keyboard or workstation, along with some combination of climbing and balancing. Requires visual perception and discrimination. Requires ability to communicate orally. Job must be performed with or without accommodations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Tasks are regularly performed indoors in an office environment. There is limited exposure to extreme weather conditions. May have normal exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperatures, noise, and computer screens.
