Job Summary

This position serves as the sole videographer for IU School of Medicine's Office of Gift Development and Alumni Relations. The videographer will create compelling visual storytelling through honoree videos, grateful patient testimonials, research impact stories, scholarship recipient features, and personalized stewardship videos for major donors. Videos serve as cultivation infrastructure supporting the department's 65 million dollar fundraising goal by demonstrating donor impact and inspiring generosity.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Produces 20 to 25 videos annually, including donor impact stories, testimonials, event videos, and campaign content.
• Creates honoree videos for Medical Alumni Weekend (8 videos) and Gathering of Friends (3 videos).
• Captures grateful patient testimonials, research breakthroughs, and scholarship recipient stories.
• Manages full production cycle: concept development, scheduling, filming, editing, and delivery.
• Uses Adobe Creative Suite for editing; adjusts to platform specifications (event display, web, social).
• Maintains video equipment and develops a b-roll library to increase production efficiency and visual storytelling capacity.
• Consults with Annual Giving, Major Gift Officers, and Communications on video needs and priorities.
• Meets with stakeholders before projects to understand cultivation purpose and target audience.
• Identifies opportunities for video content to extend cultivation reach.
• Produces personalized stewardship videos for major donors featuring scholarship recipients, faculty, or school leadership.
• Coordinates with gift officers and the Annual Giving team to identify donor opportunities and schedule subject participation.
• Proposes and pilots new video formats to extend donor engagement (short-form social, live streaming, webinar content, fund impact updates).
• Builds and maintains b-roll library with high-quality cinematic clips tagged by subject area.
• Archives video assets to PhotoShelter with proper metadata for easy retrieval.
• Maintains filming equipment including cameras, lenses, lights, and editing lab equipment.
• Documents video production workflows for institutional knowledge.
• Builds fundraising and advancement literacy to create more effective, targeted content.
• Seeks input from peers and stakeholders to evaluate effectiveness of video approaches.
• Follows up on completed projects to understand impact and inform future work.

General Responsibilities

• Identifies basic, complex, special, and/or urgent videography projects for use in a variety of marketing and communications needs.
• Sets timelines, determines desired video composition, performs necessary interviews and/or research, and selects and adjusts subjects, equipment, and lighting to achieve desired artistic effects.
• Captures and edits video footage using various equipment and software including Adobe Creative Suite, adjusting to formatting specifications of marketing and communications project needs, audiences, and platforms.
• May delegate basic editing tasks to Videography Assistant(s).
• Consults regularly with marketing and communications staff and other key stakeholders to determine project needs and ensure video elements align with strategy and objectives.
• Maintains filming equipment, including editing lab equipment, lenses, lights, and cameras, inventory; performs basic and more complex equipment repairs.
• Seeks input from peers and stakeholders on a variety of videography projects to evaluate effectiveness of different aesthetics, lighting, images, etc.
• May provide organizational training on videography methodology and strategy.
• May provide guidance to Videography Assistants or lower-level Videographers.

EDUCATION

Required

• Bachelor's degree in video production, art, or a related field.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary

$60,000 - 63,750.00 per year based on candidate experience, skills, and qualifications.
