Work Schedule and Hours
Typical hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional work on evenings and weekends may be necessary to meet the needs of the department. This position requires the candidate to live within one hour of the UNCA campus. This position may allow for hybrid work experience within the local geographical region, depending on the candidate.

Position Summary
This position will perform highly technical work in the development, installation, tailoring, modification, and maintenance of complex virtualization and data storage computing environments (SAN). Work completed by this position requires advanced knowledge of systems, hardware configuration, and software interconnectivity. This position will resolve difficult and unusual problems, serve as systems authority/expert, provide advice and counsel to its peers, and assist in forecasting system and applications growth within the environment.
Required Education/Experience/Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or a Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming or closely related area; or an Associate’s degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Engineering Technology or Networking Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming or closely related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills
Master’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering, or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or seven years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming, systems administration, or closely related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with VMWare, Storage Area Networks, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, Windows Systems Administration (including Active Directory, Group Policy, SQL, DNS, DHCP, shared drives), using a command line interface in multiple operating system environments, and various desktop operating systems. Experience working in a higher education environment is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong technical knowledge of virtualization platforms (like Broadcom, Hyper-V), OS (Windows, Linux), networking, and cloud computing, along with scripting skills in languages like PowerShell or Python. Key soft skills include exceptional problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication abilities, as well as attention to detail and the capacity to work collaboratively in a fast-paced educational environment.
