ABOUT SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIOR DESIGN

With a faculty that contributes experiences in practice and research in more than ten countries, the international make-up of the School of Architecture and Interior Design at CUD is unique in the UAE. It brings together traditions and innovations from the east and the west, the north and the south, and seeks to provide the best of this broad cultural background in design, offering new views on the local context from a global perspective.

The School understands architecture and interior design as manifestations of social and cultural life in space. It conceives architectural and interior design as creative processes giving spatial forms to human values by organizing material and environmental conditions in the urban context; It considers that architectural design creations must provide an inspiring enclosure for human activity and thinking to thrive. The School offers a five-year Bachelor of Architecture, a four-year Bachelor of Science in Interior Design, a three-term Master of Science in Design Innovation for the Circular Economy, while it is expanding its educational ecosystem to shape a more comprehensive design landscape.

PROFILE

The Department of Architecture invites applications for a one-semester faculty appointment from candidates with significant academic research and teaching experience in environmental and regenerative design.

The position is particularly suited to scholars and practitioners whose work bridges:

• environmental systems and architectural design integration
• regenerative and high-performance building strategies
• digital and data-driven approaches to sustainability
• climate-responsive design in urban and building contexts

The successful candidate will contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, with a strong emphasis on design studios informed by advanced environmental thinking.

Candidates with previous teaching experience at Canadian University Dubai will be considered preferentially.

TEACHING SCOPE

The appointed faculty will typically contribute to:

• Design studios
• Advanced environmental systems and design integration courses
• Teaching aligned with the MSc DICE program and its focus on circular and regenerative design
• Integrate environmental and regenerative design methodologies into teaching
• Supervise and mentor students in design-led and research-informed work
• Contribute to the academic development of sustainability-focused curricula
• Engage with the School’s research agenda on circular economy and regenerative systems
• Support academic initiatives, reviews, and interdisciplinary collaborations

The role requires the ability to embed environmental intelligence within design processe s , moving beyond compliance toward regenerative and performance-driven design frameworks.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver one design studio and supporting taught courses (up to 12 credits)

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES
Applicants should demonstrate:

• A PhD in Architecture, Architectural Technology, or related field, with a focus on environmental or regenerative design
• A strong record of academic research and publications in areas such as:
  • regenerative design
  • environmental performance
  • positive energy districts
  • climate-responsive architecture
• Proven teaching experience in internationally recognized institutions
• Ability to connect technical environmental knowledge with architectural design studios
• Professional experience in sustainability consulting or environmental design practice is highly desirable
  
  PREFERRED PROFILE
• Have previous teaching experience at CUD
• Demonstrate expertise in environmental systems and design integration within studio teaching
• Have an established track record in regenerative design research and applied methodologies
• Bring experience across academic, research, and professional practice environments
Contribute to innovative pedagogical frameworks linking digital tools and sustainability
