Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced VMware Migration Specialist to plan, execute, and manage the migration of virtualized workloads to VMware-based infrastructure or to the cloud. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in VMware vSphere, vCenter, and related technologies, with a proven track record of successful large-scale virtualization and data center migrations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess current on-premises or legacy environments and develop detailed VMware migration strategies.
- Perform discovery, analysis, and design for virtual machine (VM) consolidation or relocation.
- Plan and execute migrations of servers, applications, and storage to VMware platforms (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, vCloud, etc.).
- Ensure minimal downtime and risk through careful scheduling, testing, and rollback planning.
- Configure, optimize, and troubleshoot VMware clusters, resource pools, and HA/DRS configurations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (network, storage, application owners) for seamless cutover.
- Maintain detailed documentation, including architecture diagrams, migration runbooks, and post-migration reports.
- Provide training, knowledge transfer, and support to internal IT teams after migration.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in VMware vSphere/ESXi/vCenter administration and enterprise migrations.
- Hands-on experience with vMotion, vSphere Replication, vCenter Converter, and related tools.
- Strong understanding of networking (LAN/WAN, VLANs, firewalls) and storage (SAN/NAS) concepts.
- Experience with data center consolidation, P2V (Physical-to-Virtual) and V2V (Virtual-to-Virtual) migrations.
- Solid knowledge of backup/recovery solutions and disaster recovery planning.
- Ability to create detailed migration plans and execute with minimal supervision.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred Certifications:
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP-DCV) or higher.
- ITIL Foundation or equivalent IT service management certification.
- Microsoft/Cloud certifications (Azure, AWS) a plus if hybrid/cloud migration is involved.
