Vocal Music Arts Teacher

The Vocal Music Arts Teacher leads the design and delivery of dynamic, engaging, and comprehensive music lesson plans that support youth development outcomes. They maintain clear behavioral standards that promote a safe, orderly, and inspiring environment for rehearsals and performances. This role coordinates student auditions, evaluates musical growth, safeguards Club-owned instruments, and upholds all organizational policies. The Music Arts Teacher also produces reports for leadership, conducts ongoing program audits, and manages scheduling and classroom maintenance to optimize learning.

These are some of the additional
responsibilities of a Vocal Music Arts Teacher:
  • Develop, implement, and deliver comprehensive, age-appropriate music lesson plans that support Youth Development Outcomes and enrich the experience of both members and visitors.
  • Plan a balanced music program, schedule lesson times in accordance with staff and student schedules, and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Ensure quality programs by bringing fresh ideas and practices to various music-related programs.
  • Coordinate and facilitate student auditions before enrollment.
  • Establish and maintain standards of member behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.
  • Evaluate members’ musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group, which allows everyone to participate.
  • Maintain care/responsibility for Club-owned musical instruments and equipment to prevent loss or misuse.
  • Support the development and implementation of strategic initiatives in accordance with meeting and exceeding core program objectives, with guidance from the Arts Director.
  • Prepare activity/programming reports for senior management.
  • Regularly evaluate and audit the overall quality and objectives of the program. Provide a written analysis of observations and feedback annually, as warranted, or as requested by the Arts Director.
  • Ensure that Club procedures, including but not limited to human resources, financial, and privacy policies, are strictly adhered to.
  • Travel out of state as needed to coordinate and attend member trainings and performances.

This is what your schedule could look like:
  • This role is part-time, scheduled for 15 hours a week, with flexible scheduling to accommodate personal life or class schedules. We always aim for consistent schedules for our staff to promote work-life balance.
  • Shifts are:
    • 1:00 pm / 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm / 7:00 pm,
    • 3:30 pm / 6:30 pm
  • This posting is for our Donald W. Reynolds Youth & Teen Clubhouse location.
Required Education & Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of four years of related experience required.
  • Minimum of six months of music education experience.
Skills & Abilities that make a successful Vocal Music Arts Teacher:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate effectively with a diverse population, and represent BGCTM professionally to the community.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with professionalism and diplomacy.
  • Able to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
  • Must be able to perform duties that require walking, talking, hearing, standing, and sitting for long periods of time. May occasionally be required to bend, kneel, run, and/or climb.
  • Must be able to use hands and arms to enter data into the computer, use the telephone, and other office equipment
  • Must be able to lift, move, manipulate, and or hold objects up to 45 pounds. Objects that exceed the 45-pound weight limit require additional assistance when moving, lifting, or manipulating.
