Job Summary
CASA of Western Maryland is seeking a compassionate, organized, and mission-driven Volunteer Advocate Supervisor to recruit, train, support, and supervise volunteer advocates who serve children involved in the child welfare system. This position plays a key role in ensuring that each child assigned to the program receives consistent, high-quality advocacy focused on safety, permanency, and well-being.
The Volunteer Advocate Supervisor provides professional guidance and oversight to volunteers, supports case management and court-related documentation, and works collaboratively with child welfare professionals, attorneys, service providers, and the court.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Supervision and Support
- Recruit, screen, interview, and help select volunteer advocates.
- Train, coach, and supervise volunteer advocates throughout the life of their cases.
- Maintain regular contact with volunteers to provide case guidance, encouragement, accountability, and problem-solving support.
- Review volunteer activity, case progress, and documentation to ensure compliance with program standards, court expectations, and organizational policies.
- Support new volunteers during onboarding and early case assignment.
- Help identify continuing education and development opportunities for volunteers.
Case Management and Advocacy Support
- Assign cases in consultation with program leadership and based on volunteer capacity, readiness, and child needs.
- Monitor assigned cases to ensure timely progress, appropriate advocacy, and accurate documentation.
- Assist volunteers with gathering information, understanding case dynamics, identifying concerns, and developing advocacy recommendations.
- Review and support preparation of court reports, case summaries, and other required documentation before submission.
- Attend court hearings, meetings, and case-related staffing as needed.
Collaboration and Program Coordination
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with child welfare staff, attorneys, educators, service providers, foster caregivers, and court personnel.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records in case management systems and program files.
- Assist with volunteer training, outreach, and program growth efforts.
- Support overall program goals, special projects, and quality assurance efforts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, criminal justice, education, or a related field preferred.
- Relevant experience in child welfare, case management, volunteer coordination, advocacy, social services, or a related field may be considered in place of degree requirements.
- Experience supervising, training, or supporting volunteers or staff strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of child welfare, family systems, trauma, abuse and neglect, and court-involved cases preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to review reports and communicate with professionalism and sensitivity.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple cases, priorities, deadlines, and relationships effectively.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and case documentation systems.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel locally as needed.

Work Environment
This position requires a combination of office, community, court, and virtual work. Some evening/weekend hours may be required to support volunteer training or events.
