Volunteer Coordinator

  • Reports to: Head of Operations
  • Hours: 3 days per week (22.5 hours)
  • Salary: £26,734 per annum pro rata (based on 3 days per week))
  • Location: The Joshua Tree Centre, Dalefords Lane, Sandiway

Role Purpose

The Volunteer Coordinator is an exciting new role within The Joshua Tree, created to strengthen and develop volunteer engagement across the organisation.

Acting as a welcoming first point of contact for volunteers, the postholder will coordinate and support volunteers throughout their journey with The Joshua Tree. The role will lead on volunteer recruitment, induction, scheduling and ongoing support, ensuring volunteers feel valued, informed and empowered to make a meaningful contribution to the charity.

The successful candidate will be proactive, highly organised and people-focused, with a passion for creating a positive and rewarding volunteer experience while supporting the wider work and mission of the charity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Volunteer Recruitment & Coordination
  • · Lead the recruitment, onboarding and induction of volunteers across the organisation.
  • · Develop volunteer role descriptions and support safer recruitment practices.
  • · Coordinate volunteer rotas to support service delivery and events.
  • · Maintain accurate volunteer records, training logs and DBS information where required.
  • · Ensure volunteers receive appropriate training, guidance and ongoing support.
  • · Build positive relationships with volunteers to encourage engagement and retention.
  • · Organise volunteer recognition and appreciation initiatives.
  • · Act as the main point of contact for volunteers and respond to enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • · Ensure volunteers adhere to polices and ethos of The Joshua Tree

About you:

  • · Experience of coordinating volunteers or in a similar community support type role
  • · Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability deliver presentations to groups of volunteers
  • · Ability to organise volunteers across different areas of the charity whilst managing the needs of different teams
  • · Knowledge of recruitment and induction processes
  • · Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple and plan ahead
  • · Ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of people.
  • · Good IT skills including Microsoft Office and database systems.
  • · Understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding and professional boundaries.
  • · Enthusiastic and motivated with a positive attitude.
  • · Reliable, flexible and adaptable.
  • · Commitment to the values and mission of The Joshua Tree.

Desirable Criteria

  • · Previous experience within the charity or voluntary sector.
  • · Knowledge of volunteer management best practice.
  • · Understanding of the challenges faced by families affected by childhood cancers.
  • Additional Information
  • · An enhanced DBS check will be required for this position.
