POSITION SUMMARY:

The Vice President of People Operations will serve as a strategic and hands-on leader, responsible for building and executing a people strategy that supports both operational excellence and workforce development. This role oversees all aspects of HR, including recruiting, training and development, compensation, and HR operations. Given the scale and nature of our business, the VP must be experienced in managing a high- turnover, service-oriented workforce and in implementing people programs that drive retention, performance, and culture across multiple locations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND EXPECTATIONS:

  • Lead and develop the People Operations function, including recruiting, learning & development, compensation, compliance, and employee relations.
  • Partner with executive leadership to design and deliver workforce strategies that align with business goals, customer expectations, and safety standards.
  • Oversee high-volume recruiting efforts to ensure timely hiring of front-line employees such as drivers and dispatchers, as well as leadership and corporate roles.
  • Build robust training programs focused on customer service, compliance, safety, and career development.
  • Develop and maintain competitive, fair compensation structures that attract and retain top talent.
  • Establish HR systems, processes, and reporting that enable operational efficiency and data-driven decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and employment regulations, particularly within a multi-state, service-based workforce.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, engagement, and high performance that aligns with the company’s mission of service excellence.
  • Advise executives and regional leaders on workforce planning, succession management, and organizational design.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred

Experience:

  • 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with at least 5 years at the Director level or above
  • Background in multi-unit, service-driven industries such as transportation, logistics, hospitality, or retail
  • Proven experience leading HR functions in high-volume, high-turnover environments
  • Hands-on expertise in at least one HR discipline (Learning & Development, Recruiting, or Compensation), with strong generalist knowledge across all areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to scale HR systems, teams, and processes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with unionized workforces and/or international HR operations is a plus.

General Working Conditions:

  • The office-working environment is generally favorable.
  • Standard office equipment is available.
  • Work may frequently require extended workdays to meet work demands.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must work in the office at least 3 days a week.
  • While in the office, work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 20% of the time. Constant use of computer for keying and reading screen.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $200,000.00 - $250,000.00 per year
