Job Summary:
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Fiber Optic Splicing Technician to join our telecom operations in Qatar. The ideal candidate must have practical experience working on Ooredoo, Vodafone, and QNBN networks, with a solid understanding of FTTX/OSP infrastructure, fiber splicing, jointing, and OTDR testing. The technician will be responsible for performing high-quality fiber splicing and testing to support installation, maintenance, and emergency restoration projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform fiber optic cable splicing, termination, and testing using OTDR, Power Meter, and Light Source tools.
- Install, test, and maintain Fiber Access Terminals (FATs), closures, and splice trays.
- Interpret and work from splicing plans, OSP drawings, and client standards.
- Execute splicing for new installations, restorations, and network upgrades on aerial, underground, and direct-buried networks.
- Ensure the quality of splices through proper testing and documentation (OTDR trace results, power levels, etc.).
- Maintain detailed records of splicing activities, including fiber assignments, test results, and as-built documentation.
- Coordinate with team leaders, project engineers, and client representatives for smooth execution.
- Ensure strict adherence to health and safety protocols, especially while working in confined spaces, manholes, and roadside environments.
- Troubleshoot and repair issues in the fiber optic network to restore services quickly and efficiently.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order and report any faults or losses.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Splicing Technician in telecom projects, preferably in Qatar.
- Proven hands-on experience with Ooredoo, Vodafone, QAF and QNBN network standards and processes.
- Strong knowledge of FTTH, FTTX, and OSP fiber networks.
- Skilled in OTDR, Power Meter, Light Source, and Fusion Splicing Machines (Fujikura, Sumitomo, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret fiber plans, schematics, and splice diagrams.
- Basic knowledge of civil and installation practices related to telecom infrastructure.
- Valid Qatar driving license preferred.
- Physical fitness to work in field environments, including climbing ladders, entering manholes, and working in hot weather.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Certification or training in Fiber Optics/OSP/FTTX is an advantage.
