The Web Press Operator is responsible for the setup, operation, maintenance, and quality output of web printing presses. This position ensures production runs meet all quality, productivity, and safety standards. The operator monitors press performance, performs adjustments as needed, leads the press crew during operation, and ensures all press functions operate efficiently to meet production requirements.

Required Duties/Tasks:

  • Operate web printing press equipment to produce high-quality printed products while maintaining production efficiency and quality standards.
  • Set up, adjust, operate, and maintain multi-color web offset presses.
  • Review job specifications and production schedules to determine appropriate press setup and run requirements.
  • Hanging and aligning plates
  • Examining plates and cylinders for defects
  • Ensuring proper image positioning
  • Preparing blankets
  • Ability move up to 1000 lbs rolls
  • Adjusting tension and registration
  • Make color corrections and press adjustments to ensure print quality meets production specifications.
  • Monitor print quality throughout the production run including color reproduction, image quality, and product specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with postal specifications and other production requirements when applicable.
  • Maintain press equipment by keeping machinery clean, lubricated, and properly maintained.
  • Perform minor repairs and replace worn or broken parts when necessary.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance as recommended by equipment manufacturers.
  • Notify supervisors and maintenance personnel of equipment issues or required repairs.
  • Provide leadership and direction to press crew members during production operations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of production data including time, materials, impressions, waste, and run speeds.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments including scheduling, prepress, and maintenance to ensure smooth production operations.
  • Maintain a safe and injury-free work environment by following all safety procedures and policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or management.
  • Understand department communication systems, schedules, time/attendance system and job reporting requirements
  • Ability to work long hours, with overtime and holidays as required (OT paid over 40 hours per week).
  • All other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proven experience operating printing presses, preferably web presses.
  • Knowledge of printing materials and production requirements.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers and fractions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors accurately.
  • High attention to detail and quality control.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and production goals under pressure.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to utilize pallet jacks operations when necessary for material handling within the production area preferred.
  • Able to work efficiently with minimal supervision

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a fast-paced production environment preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating a web press preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, often 12 hours or more per shift.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and movement throughout the facility.
  • Ability to grip, twist, and turn using both hands for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks associated with press operation.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $32.00 per hour
