Position Overview

The Web Team Lead is responsible for leading and evolving NorthWing Digital’s web department — overseeing the people, processes, and technology that drive high-quality website delivery.

This role manages the internal web team (including developers, project managers, and designers), along with a network of contract developers and partners. The Web Team Lead ensures that projects are executed efficiently, profitably, and in alignment with NorthWing’s technical standards and client goals.

The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, deep WordPress experience, a strategic understanding of website architecture, and the ability to bridge creative, technical, and marketing perspectives. Experience with Shopify, Drupal, CRM integrations, and emerging technologies (including AI in development) is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, mentor, and support the web team, including developers, project managers, and designers.
  • Oversee contract and freelance developers, ensuring alignment with quality, timelines, and budgets.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, quarterly conversations, and performance reviews in accordance with EOS practices.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure capacity planning and resource allocation meet project and profitability targets.

Process Development & Optimization

  • Build, document, and refine internal processes for web project delivery, QA, and handoff.
  • Develop frameworks for scoping, estimating, and planning website projects.
  • Implement systems for knowledge sharing, coding standards, and design consistency.
  • Identify bottlenecks and opportunities to improve efficiency across the web workflow.

Solution Architecture & Technical Strategy

  • Serve as the primary architect for new web builds and complex site solutions.
  • Define scalable, secure, and performance-driven WordPress architecture.
  • Oversee integrations with CRM platforms (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho) and marketing tools.
  • Guide decisions around hosting environments, plugins, and custom functionality.
  • Evaluate and recommend when to use Shopify or hybrid solutions based on client needs.

Website Strategy & Innovation

  • Partner with account managers and strategists to align web solutions with client goals and marketing performance.
  • Define and maintain NorthWing’s web standards — including UX best practices, SEO alignment, and conversion optimization.
  • Stay ahead of trends in website design, development, and automation.Champion the thoughtful integration of AI tools to improve development speed, QA, and content workflows.

Project Oversight & Scoping

  • Review and approve project scopes, timelines, and budgets for accuracy and profitability.
  • Support the sales and strategy teams by leading scoping new opportunities and supporting web proposals.Troubleshoot and support in-progress projects when technical or structural issues arise.
  • Ensure high-quality delivery through internal QA processes and technical reviews.

QualificationsRequired

  • 8+ years of experience in web development, with at least 2+ years in a leadership or management role.
  • Expert-level knowledge of WordPress (themes, plugins, custom post types, performance optimization).
  • Experience with Shopify (store setup, customization, app integrations) and other eCommerce tools.
  • Experience with Drupal (site management, module configuration, and theme customization.
  • Proven experience architecting and delivering complex website projects.
  • Familiarity with CRM integrations (HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of responsive design, UX/UI principles, and SEO fundamentals.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.

Preferred

  • Agency experience managing multiple concurrent web projects.
  • Experience working with tools like Monday.com for project tracking.Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and version control (Git).
  • Experience with AI-assisted development or prompt-based coding tools.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and web compliance best practices.
