The Video and Media Specialist is responsible for capturing the positive impact of the Weber School District through professional visual storytelling. This role oversees the video production process—from ideation and scriptwriting to filming and editing—to enhance the district’s image, promote strategic priorities, and engage the community across all digital platforms.

Video Production & Visual Storytelling

Identify and produce compelling stories that highlight the successes of students, staff, and the district’s unique programs.

Maintain and organize the district's camera gear, lighting kits, and audio equipment for immediate use or deployment to schools.

Manage the full production lifecycle: writing scripts, crafting creative concepts, filming, and high-end editing.

Spend significant daily time performing high-end editing.

Capture high-quality photography and video at district events, school activities, and recognition ceremonies to feature district "happenings."

Maintain a digital library of high-resolution images for use in district publications, newsletters, and brochures. This includes uploading, tagging, organizing, and managing access to high-resolution photos for department and school use.

Ensure all visual content maintains the district’s brand identity and adheres to the established "style guide" regarding logos and colors.

Social Media & Content Management

Create, curate, and manage content for the district’s YouTube channel(s), implementing strategies to increase viewership and subscriber engagement.

Tailor visual content for all major social media platforms to ensure messaging is effective and reaches diverse stakeholder groups.

Maintain and update visual assets on the district website to ensure a modern and professional digital presence.

Internships and Capstone Student Experiences

INNOVATE Campus Collaboration: Work directly with the INNOVATE Campus classroom to provide authentic, real-world professional opportunities for students.

Mentorship: Manage and direct student interns, providing professional guidance as they assist in content creation and the coverage of school events.

Workforce Development: Create a pipeline for student creators to apply their classroom learning to district-level communications projects.

Part-Time Team: Oversee, schedule, and organize resources and projects for part-time high school students who capture high-quality photography and video at school activities.

Administrative Support & Collaboration

Collaborate with the Communications & Community Engagement Administrator to align visual storytelling with the annual communications calendar.

Support the School Safety & Community Relations Specialist by providing visual assets for crisis communication or emergency notifications when necessary.

Work with professional staff across the district to ensure outreach efforts align with broader educational goals.

Physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position. The role requires in-person collaboration, direct interaction with team members, other staff, students, and/or guardians, and access to on-site equipment and resources.

Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Digital Media, Video Production, Communications, or a related field.

Technical Expertise: * Expert-level proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, etc.).

Proven experience in professional video production, including lighting, audio, and cinematography.

Experience: 3–5 years of experience in digital media and video production, ideally within a public sector or educational environment.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills to effectively draft scripts and collaborate with diverse groups.

Ethics: Must adhere to the professional ethics outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission and district policies.

Creativity and Innovation: Ability to find fresh ways to tell the district's story.

Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
