Weekend Shift DSP (Direct Support Professional)

Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities and other special needs. This position involves providing compassionate care, support, and assistance with daily living activities in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and community environments. The DSP will work closely with clients to promote independence, dignity, and personal growth while ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
  • Provide patient observation and monitoring to ensure the health and safety of individuals under care.
  • Implement care plans as directed by healthcare professionals and assist with medication administration when required.
  • Support individuals in social interactions and community engagement to foster independence and inclusion.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within living spaces to promote a healthy environment.
  • Utilize proper techniques for heavy lifting and transferring clients, including the use of Hoyer lifts when necessary.
  • Document client progress and any changes in behavior or condition while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care tailored to individual needs.
  • Engage in activities that promote cognitive function for clients with Alzheimer’s or dementia through memory care techniques.

Requirements

  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism is preferred.
  • Familiarity with first aid, CPR, patient monitoring, and vital signs is essential.
  • Previous experience in caregiving roles such as home health aide, nursing home staff, or hospice care is highly valued.
  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures and maintaining a safe living environment is required.
  • Ability to engage in physical activities including heavy lifting as needed for client support.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and team members.
  • Understanding of care plans and the ability to follow instructions from healthcare professionals is necessary.
  • A compassionate demeanor with a commitment to providing high-quality patient care in various settings such as long-term care facilities or community homes. Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
