Job Summary:
Thomas Fence is seeking a skilled Welder to fabricate and repair custom metal components for fencing projects, including galvanized steel, aluminum, and other materials. The Welder must be proficient in TIG and MIG welding techniques, ensuring high-quality craftsmanship that meets company standards and customer expectations. This role is critical in delivering durable and aesthetically pleasing fencing solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Welding & Fabrication:
- Fabricate and assemble custom metal components, including galvanized chain link, steel, and aluminum, based on blueprints and project specifications.
- Perform TIG and MIG welding to complete projects with precision and quality.
- Measure, cut, and shape materials using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.
- Fabricate from an idea.
- Properly grind, polish, and prepare metal to be painted.
2. Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
- Operate welding equipment and machinery safely and effectively.
- Report any equipment issues or malfunctions to the Fabrication Supervisor promptly.
3. Quality Control:
- Inspect completed welds for accuracy, durability, and adherence to specifications.
- Identify and repair defects or imperfections in welded materials.
- Maintain consistency and precision across all projects to uphold Thomas Fence’s high-quality standards.
4. Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to all company safety protocols and OSHA regulations in the shop and on job sites.
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure a clean and organized workspace, minimizing hazards and risks.
5. Collaboration & Documentation:
- Work closely with the operations and installation teams to meet project timelines and specifications.
- Accurately document work performed, including material usage and project progress.
- Provide input on design and fabrication improvements as needed.
Qualifications:
Required Skills & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; welding certification or equivalent experience required.
- Proficiency in TIG (1 yr) and MIG (5 yrs) welding techniques. Note: Demonstration of proficiency will be required during the interview.
- Experience working with galvanized steel, aluminum, and other metals.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in the fencing or construction industry.
- Familiarity with plasma cutters or other advanced fabrication equipment.
- Ability to use paint safely and effectively.
- Forklift operation experience and certification.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 75 pounds regularly.
- Comfortable working in a fabrication shop environment with exposure to heat, noise, and fumes.
- Ability to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
